The Karl Marx Allee was built as a magnificent socialist boulevard. It was constructed by the former
German Democratic Repulic between 1952 and 1960 in Friedrichshain and Mitte in Berlin. It is one of
the major roads very close to where I am staying in Friedrichshain. It is lined with eight story high apart-
ment blocks, many designed in the wedding-cake style, the socialist classicism of the Soviet Union.
There are also buildings designed in a more minimalist modernist style which I prefer. I really enjoy
cycling along this road as the architecture is incredible, so much glass. Below are a few of the images
I have taken when I notice an interesting play of light between what is behind the glass and reflected on
the glass windows.
